Iodine is essential for normal thyroid function, and the majority of subjects tolerate a wide range of dietary levels. Liquid Iodine provides iodine derived from kelp, in a glycerin suspension, to help in the function of the thyroid gland. In a double blind trial, efficacy and tolerability of low dose iodine in adults with euthyroid, diffuse, endemic goiter were evaluated. Sixty-two subjects were randomly assigned iodine (0.2 mg/day) or placebo for 12 months. After termination of therapy, both groups were followed for a further 6 months. Iodine substantially reduced thyroid volume, and at 18 months, the therapeutic effect was sustained. Thus, low dose iodine successfully normalized thyroid volume and body iodine supplementation in the study subjects.

Iodine at 14-800g per day helps in the function of the thyroid gland.
